Freelance science and technology journalist and editor
I started taking on freelance commissions in March 2010 following the birth of my daughter in May 2009. I work from my home in Bristol, UK, and welcome any enquiries.

I joined the Institute of Physics Publishing in October 2001 as a news reporter on the daily website optics.org and its sister monthly magazine Optics & Laser Europe (OLE). I was subsequently promoted to technology editor of both products and then to editor of OLE in March 2006.
October 1998 to September 2001
University of St Andrews, Scotland, UK
I have a PhD in physics from the University of St Andrews. I worked as part of a collaboration between the university's School of Physics and Astronomy and Ninewells Hospital in Dundee resulting in a thesis entitled "Imaging Systems for the Fluorescence Detection of Cancer". My PhD supervisors were Professor Wilson Sibbett and Professor Miles Padgett.
